We’ve put together a short FAQ with information about doing a shoot with us. If you have a question that isn’t answered here, please drop us a note to email@example.com and we’ll be happy to answer it for you.
Do I have to look like a model to do a glamour or boudoir session?
Absolutely not! Beauty photography is for every woman regardless of her age, size, or anything else. It’s all about creating portraits that celebrate who you are as a woman.
Should I try to lose some weight first?
We get that you want to look your best before getting in front of the camera, but it’s not necessary to kill yourself at the gym before your shoot. We want to make pictures of you just as you are. And with careful lighting and posing, we do our best to hide any problem areas.
How much does it cost?
For information related to pricing, please visit the pricing area of the website using the link at the top of the page.
Do I have to get my hair and makeup done?
Part of working with us is pampering yourself with a make over prior to your shoot. Our beauty expert Kerri has lots of experience making people look great in front of the camera, so sit back and relax with a glass of bubbly!
Are you an all female team?
Patton Portraits is comprised of both Kerri our beauty consultant and Erik the photographer. Some boudoir studios like to promote that they’re “all female” which implies that male photographers are somehow less qualified or can’t be trusted. Nothing could be further from the truth! Erik is a true professional with over 200 previous clients and will treat you with nothing but respect.
Rather than judge the photographer by her gender, we would rather you look at our work to decide if we’re a good fit for you. Part of Kerri’s responsibility during the shoot is to help with posing and setting up the shot, so you’ll get both the female and male perspective of what makes a great shot.
And since a lot of boudoir photography is done as a gift for your husband or boyfriend, having a male photographer can actually be an advantage.
Do I have know how to pose? I’m afraid I’ll look dumb.
Erik has worked with models, brides, and boudoir clients so he know how to pose you so that you look great. Both he and Kerri are there every step of the way with suggestions for getting the best from your shoot. The key to getting great poses and expressions is to simply relax and be yourself. And if you get stuck, Erik will demonstrate exactly what to do which is sure to get at least a laugh or two.
How long does a session last?
A typical session lasts between one and two hours with time in between to chat, chill out, and refill your champaign glass.
What should I bring?
Please plan on bringing at least two outfits. Lingerie and the like is the norm for boudoir, but for a glamour shoot we recommend something like a cocktail dress. For any kind of shoot we’ll want to show off your curves so form fitting garments work best.
I’m going to be really nervous. Can I bring a friend for moral support?
You’re more than welcome to bring along a girlfriend if you like. Just be aware that there isn’t likely to be a lot of space in the room with everybody in there plus photo equipment.
Where do you do the shoot? Do you have a studio?
We do have a studio in an artist’s coop. It’s a private space with a shooting bay and small meeting area. We can also shoot on location such as a private residence or hotel room if you prefer.
How long does it take to get my pictures?
Proofs are normally delivered in about two weeks. Prints will take another couple of weeks while albums may take a couple of months. If you have a deadline you’re trying to meet for a wedding or anniversary, please let us know so we can make sure to schedule you appropriately.
Will you put my pictures on the internet?
No way. While we love to show samples of our work to prospective clients, your privacy is paramount. We will never show your pictures to anyone without your explicit permission.
Will you photoshop my pictures to make me look like a super model?
All portraiture requires some amount of retouching to turn the raw digital image from the camera into a pleasing portrait. Beauty photography is no different. Retouching is limited to some skin smoothing and very subtle reshaping where necessary. We want your pictures to be you and not overly photoshopped.
